Caney Fork River

Below Center Hill Dam in DeKalb County — about an hour east of Nashville. Cold, clear, and loaded with wild and stocked rainbows and browns. One of the most productive tailwaters in the Southeast.

The Caney fishes well year-round. Winter midges, spring BWOs and sulphurs, summer caddis hatches, fall streamers for big browns. There's always something going on.

Common questions

Before you book

Do I need any experience? +
None whatsoever. We guide complete beginners all the time and love it. If you've never cast a fly rod, we'll start with the basics and have you fishing confidently within the first hour. If you're experienced and want to work on something specific — nymphing technique, reading water, matching hatches — we can do that too.
What do I need to bring? +
Layers (river temperatures can be cold even on warm days), sunglasses (polarized if you have them), sunscreen, water, snacks, and your Tennessee fishing license. We handle everything else — flies, terminal tackle, and gear if you need it. Wear clothes you don't mind getting wet.
What time do we start? +
Start times depend on generation schedules and season. We'll confirm exact meet times when we book. Generally, early morning is better — fish are more active and crowds are lower. We'll meet at an agreed access point on the Caney Fork.
What happens if the generation is running? +
We fish anyway — just differently. Higher flows mean we switch to indicator nymphing with heavier weight and target the seams and edges. The Caney Fork fishes in both conditions; you just have to know how to adapt. That's exactly what having a guide is for.
What's your cancellation policy? +
Life happens. Cancel more than 48 hours out and we'll reschedule at no charge. Cancellations inside 48 hours are non-refundable but can be rescheduled once. We never cancel for weather — we fish in the rain, and honestly some of the best days on the Caney are overcast and drizzly.
Do you do catch and release? +
We strongly encourage catch and release, especially on wild fish. The Caney Fork is a managed fishery and the trout population depends on anglers being responsible. We'll teach you proper fish handling so you can release fish safely and watch them swim away strong.
